In the Shadow of the Florentine Tower

In the Shadow of the Florentine Tower

Cold resignation as an eclipsing
monstrosity against the Moon
Sol and stars
falls over those tiny things below
the pawns
the plebs
the prostrated
in the shadow of the Florentine tower
its walls of commerce
its battlements of Machiavellian morals
the means justifying the end
countless miseries
shameless hypocrisies
a rat-race routine
disturbed by the disquiet dystopia
a radical realisation of reality
a revelation really
one of those tiny things
looks up
up from their prostration
up from procrastination
up from pointless protestation
questions
queries
quizzical expression
no longer
presumes
prejudges
presents
a face to the black leviathan
the Hobbsian nightmare
that haunts
one tiny thing feeling the cold of the shadow
distraught
disturbed
disillusioned
a great global lie
lies in ruin at its base
freedom
fraternity
faithful
duty is servitude
sanitised slavery
the pawns
the plebs
the prostrated
no different now from the cart to the car
from the serf to the web surfer
from the worshipper to the whoreshopper
all in the shadow of the tower
the Leviathan
the metaphysical nightmare
real yet untouchable
except one tidy thing
thinking
thoughtful thoughts
looking up from its laptop
latte and lifestyle
and asking
where is my Sol
stars and Moon
